Ceremony: ANOTHER GREAT BOOK for every Australian classroom!
What is a GREAT curriculum? Knowledge, Skills or BOTH?

The post is about the importance of a common core of knowledge that Australian students might learn throughout their school lives. Knowledge of our world and what it means to be Australian, for ALL Australians. It is this common knowledge base that makes us all Australians, no matter where we live, where we come from or what we do - this knowledge unites us all! Curriculum revisions are opportunities to make this happen, and this is happening elsewhere - my hope is that it's happening here?
FREE Workshop - Formative Assessment!

This free workshop starts with a survey about formative assessment, presents some recent evidence-based assessments and provides teachers with opportunities to discuss how they might improve their formative assessment processes. Contact me by email gailbrown@designedlearning.com.au or phone 0424163624 for a date or time, if this is of interest at your school?
Evidence-based research & Replication, Part 3 of 5

Finding evidence-based research is the first step in applying this to meet your students' learning needs. Skimming an abstract saves time, along with checking out the method used for instruction in the research you've found. This paper discusses what's important in these steps for applying research in your classroom.
Championing curriculum-based assessments & science of reading

Hugh Catts champions the use of curriculum-based assessments as these are more appropriate and equitable for all students. Teachers should consider his criticisms of state tests and decide if these apply to the state and national tests in their school.
